History
For more than 80 years, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation has been a unifying force for Jewish community building and philanthropy. We work to enrich the quality of Jewish life in Miami-Dade County by bringing comfort and hope to the vulnerable and by investing in programs that build Jewish knowledge, identity and peoplehood - ensuring the next generation of Jews. Rated as a four-star charity on Charity Navigator, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation operates with complete financial transparency.
We know that having a strong and thriving Jewish community depends upon the long-term financial stability of all these organizations that we care so much about. That's why The Foundation was created over 50 years ago. It was built and lead by a visionary but relatively small number of volunteers and donors, with Harry Smith (of blessed memory) as its first Chair. It is also why our Federation has invested significant resources in Create a Jewish Legacy, a collaborative, community-wide endowment program - in partnership with area synagogues, agencies and day schools.
Today
Since then, The Foundation has earned the reputation of being a trusted philanthropic partner in the Jewish community, working with donors, professional advisors and Jewish agencies and synagogues to build a strong Jewish future in Miami, Israel and around the world. The Foundation now holds more than $500 million in assets, representing more than 700 families and organizations.

The Foundation works with individuals and families on their charitable giving today through our donor-advised program. Donors can establish their own "charitable bank account" and recommend distributions from their fund to support almost any charitable organization - Jewish or secular, local or global.
